Job Summary

A database administrator (DBA) is an IT professional who ensures that the software used to manage a database is properly maintained to allow rapid access when needed. The DBA works to maintain the efficiency of servers and works to ensure data security, coordinating with an IT security professional or team in larger companies to help maintain the integrity of sensitive business data. A database administrator keeps a client's information accessible in an efficient manner. DBAs ensure that access to data can be accomplished quickly and efficiently. Typically, an administrator works regular business hours during the week, but many companies require a DBA to be available on call at all times, in case of a system emergency. This position interfaces primarily with client representatives.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitor and optimize system performance.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain a database system.
  • Implement, configure, and troubleshoot database instances, replication, backup, partitions, storage, and access.
  • Set user privileges within the database environment.
  • All other position specifics, as dictated by client.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrate excellent communication.
  • Demonstrate the discipline to follow established methodology
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of a primary development language and environments used at Onshore. Or a solid understanding of data services practices and environments.
  • Achieve and maintain a competent level of technical and professional skill and knowledge in position-related areas including purchased applications as necessary.
  • Ability to identify database requirements for client
  • Resolve client issues and provide technical expertise to client when needed.
